**Quadrilateral Family Tree**

Definitions-

**Quadrilateral**: A four sided figure.

- Closed four sided figure

**Parallelogram**: A four sided plane recticlinear figure with opposite sides parallel.

- diagonals bisect eachother
- opposite angles are congruent
- opposite sides are congruent
- consecutive angles are supplementary

**Rectangle**: A plane figure with four straight sides and four right angle, esp. one with unequal adjacent sides, in contrast to a square.

- opposite sides congruent
- opposite angles are congrunt
- consecutive angles are supplementary
- diagonals bisect each other
- all four angles are right
- diagonals are congruent

**Rhombus**: A parallelogram with opposite equal acute and obtuse angles and four equal sides.

- diagonals are perpendicular
- diagonals bisects a pair of opposite sides
- diagonals bisect eachother
- opposite angles are congruent
- opposite sides are congruent
- consecutive angles are supplementary

**Square**: A plane figure with four straight sides and four right angles. All sides and angles congruent.

- all four angles are right
- diagonals are congruent
- diagonals are perpendicular
- all sides congruent

**Trapezoid**: A type of quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides.

- only one pair of parallel sides
- leg angles are supplementary
- the midsegment is parallel to the two bases
- the midsegmenty is the average of the two bases
